Методологія. У процесі дослідження було обрано шлях домінування принципів і методів пізнання, вибір яких визначався підходами до розкриття теми, поставленими завданнями та специфікою джерел. Було використано принципи історизму та об’єктивності через використання порівняльно-історичного, ретроспективного, історико-хронологічного методів та методу цілісності джерела.В рамках вивчення характеру та мети подорожей вірян до святих місць використані загальнонаукові методи дослідження – індукція та дедукція. Біографічний метод дозволив дослідити головні особливості руху прочан через призму особистого досвіду його учасників. Наукова новизна. Висвітлено головні причини європейського паломництва в епоху Середньовіччя та процес підготовки мандрівників до прощі; охарактеризовано основні напрямки руху європейських прочан; визначено головні об’єкти паломництва доби Середньовіччя. Доведено, що починаючи з XIV ст. паломництва поступово все більше втрачають ознаки акту глибокого внутрішнього релігійного обов’язку, перетворюючись на «зовнішній атрибут» аристократичного благочестя. Результати дослідження. В умовах сьогодення, коли паломницький рух є не просто одним з видів подорожі, але і ресурсом, що сприяє відновленню фізичних і духовних сил індивіда, його внутрішньому саморозвитку, досвід минулого не втратив як свого пізнавального, так і практичного значення. Запорукою подальшого прогресу людства є не тільки розвиток науки, технологій, освіти але і глибока духовна трансформація кожної особистості, пошук власного «Я».Для населення сучасної України, що переживає жахи війни це, можливо, один з шляхів психологічного відновлення та розвитку стійкості. І в цьому сенсі, дослідження феномену «подорожей за благодаттю» може бути важливим для пошуку шляхів ефективної соціальної політики у майбутньому. AbstractThe purpose of the study is highlighting the phenomenon of pilgrimage as one of the main types of travel in the Middle Ages.Methodology.In the process of research, the path of dominance of the principles and methods of cognition was chosen, the choice of which was determined by approaches to the disclosure of the topic, assigned tasks and the specifics of the sources. The principles of historicism and objectivity were used through the use of comparative-historical, retrospective, historical-chronological and source integrity methods. As part of studying the nature and purpose of believers’ travels to holy places, general scientific research methods – such as induction and deduction are used. The biographical method made it possible to investigate the main features of the movement of pilgrims through the prism of the personal experience of its participants. Scientific novelty.The main reasons for European pilgrimage in the Middle Ages and the process of preparing travelers for pilgrimage are highlighted; to characterize the main directions of movement of European pilgrims; the main objects of pilgrimage of the Middle Ages are identified. It has been proven that starting from the 14th century. religious pilgrimages gradually increasingly lose the signs of an act of deep inner religious duty, turning into an «external attribute» of aristocratic piety. Research results.In today’s conditions, when the pilgrimage movement is not just one type of journey, but also a resource that contributes to the restoration of the individual’s physical and spiritual forces, his inner self-development, the experience of the past has not lost both its cognitive and practical significance. The key to the further progress of mankind is not only the development of science, technology, and education but also a deep spiritual transformation of each individual, the search for one’s own «Ya». For the population of modern Ukraine, experiencing the horrors of war, this is perhaps one way of psychological recovery and development of stability. And in this sense, the study of the phenomenon of «grace travel» can be important for finding ways to effectively social policy in the future.
