У статті окреслюються можливі адміністративні й педагогічні шляхи подолання цих труднощів, зокрема вхідне тестування, диференціація навчання, запровадження курсів General English і інтенсивних мовних програм для досягнення цільового рівня іншомовної компетентності В2.The article examines the challenges Ukrainian non-linguistic higher education institutions face in ensuring sufficient English proficiency among firstyear students entering ESP (English for Specific Purposes) courses. It highlights the discrepancy between the officially required CEFR levels and the actual language proficiency of applicants, which often falls below A2 due to inconsistent school assessment, lack of standardized testing as well as regional disparities. The study outlines administrative and pedagogical strategies, such as diagnostic testing, differentiated instruction, preparatory General English courses, and intensive language programmes to help universities bridge these gaps and support students in achieving the target B2 level.
